Preparing a glossary using the Multiterm Convert programme
Glossary database preparation using the SDL MultiTerm Convert programme using an example file created in Microsoft Excel.

These instructions are also available as a pdf file [2,7 MB].

Click the thumbnails to start a slide show. Move to the next slide by clicking on the right side of the picture and the previous slide by clicking on the left. Explanations of what you're seeing appear under the slides.

Create a glossary database in Excel as shown in the picture. Remember that headers containing names of languages begin with Capital Letters.

Start the MultiTerm Convert program and click Next. Proceed according to the step by step instructions. If not specified otherwise, click Next and go to the next window.

Select New conversion session, followed by Next.

Select Microsoft Excel format, followed by Next.

For the Input file, browse to the Excel file you created containing the glossary database.

MultiTerm Convert will automatically create .xml, .xdt & .log files in the same location as your chosen Excel file. Proceed by clicking Next.

The window on the left lists the column headers from the selected Excel file,
to which the appropriate language can be attached from the Index field list
on the right.

The next window allows for modification of the glossary’s structure. Please leave the default settings and click Next again. Select Next or Finish to end the process.

After MultiTerm Convert’s activity ends and its dialogue box disappears, 3 additional files will have been created in the Excel catalogue: an .xml, .xdt. and a .log. file.
