The regional office of the Polish-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce every month organizes thematic meetings on which sometimes other member companies present themselves. This time it was us who had the possibility of introducing our company, at the same time starting up the dialogue about standards of the translation industry. Agata Woźniak was leading the presentation supported by Mirek Stasik and Joanna Łuczka (as a translator).
The leading motto of the meeting was Voltaire’s quotation „Translations are like women: either faithful or beautiful ” which became an excellent starting point for a discussion about the quality of translations, implementing the most optimal QA processes and European standards that are in effect, meaning so-called „translation trade norm ” EN-PL 15038. Apart from priorities, we also briefly described the functioning of our office and possibilities of translation costs optimization (without the effect on quality) by using CAT tools. The presentation included characteristics of tasks for persons working on any given project through various stages – project managers, translators, verifiers, consultants, graphic designers.
The presentation was a big success, and later on, at the dinner many people wanted to learn more about these issues, which most of the time end up in the secretary's office, without giving a second thought to the entire backup of our company.
Agata Woźniak and Mirosław Stasik from Logostrada took part in the
seminar introducing the subject of product documentation preparation. In
response to the invitation of the organizer, STI Company (Logostrada's sister
company dealing with typesetting, documentation and trainings), the seminar was
led by Dra. Dagmar Schwarz from Fourpeople GmbH, a company specializing in
creating product documentation and offering the full range of services to its
customers, also in consulting and training area. The seminar was also the
beginning of the official cooperation between both companies in this area on
the Polish market. Congratulations!
This all-day event was attended by representatives of companies from
industries such as production of boiler systems, industrial and construction
chemistry as well as providers for individual orders, and people interested in
backing up production companies with documentation services, including
translations. Because of that all documentation issues were considered from two
perspectives.
It turns out that producers are aware of the requirement of keeping
track of product documentation, however in practice the start of this process
in companies, because of lack of specialists, cost, difficulty, lack of
knowledge of the law etc, it is always delayed in time. Meanwhile the lack
or incorrect preparation of documentation can result in lawsuits asking for
high compensations from users, which in many cases are being granted to them by
courts.
Dra. Dagmar Schwarz is convincing us that the documentation process is
not that complicated and difficult to carry out, if the producer will get to
know the modular structure of such documentation and ways of multiple usage of
particular modules. Thanks to them, translating is getting easier, more
cohesive and less expensive
The
seminar was complemented by a speech of an attorney Radosław Ruciński on a
subject of requirements of the Polish law in this area. He emphasized the
responsibility, which the law is imposing on producers, consequences for
companies and he strenuously answered participants questions.
... once again the year draws to a close and Christmas approaches, with it shall be Christmas trees, presents and carp as well as cheesecakes or poppy seed cakes. Everything and altogether in a pleasant familiar excess... Perhaps snow will fall, but maybe yet again we shall only dream of winter. Whichever it will be we wish to all of you, who visit this website, that you may relax and spend pleasant times with your families, and may the New Year bring each of you at least somewhat nearer to the fulfilment of your most secret dreams.
3rd of October 2009 And once again... congratulations!
We had not yet recovered from celebrating Krystian’s wedding, and it was already time to participate in giving away our colleague - on the 3rd of October Iwona Banasiak and Tomasz Mróz were joined in holy matrimony. The wedding celebrations and the reception were held in Jawor, the family hometown of the couple. They were carried to the wedding in their new VW Caddy, straight from the Volkswagen factory in Poznań, where Tomek carefully supervises car quality everyday. The Young Couple surprised the guests with their unusual first dance, and then the celebrations continued till dawn...
Iwona has taken her husband’s surname, so on their return from the honeymoon she will contact you as Iwona Mróz.
At the time of placing this information on the website, the Young Couple have already been married for a month - and we wish them many more such wonderful months and years of happiness together
After the renovations were completed we were at last able to move into our new office at
Number 39 Promienista Street in Poznan. The chaos of the move is already over,
now we are gradually becoming accustomed to the new place. This is how our
office looks at the moment:
We are
pleased to inform you that in mid September a new colleague joined our team -
Ewa Janek. Principally she is responsible for the coordination of orders;
equally our translators and our clients will certainly have permanent contact
with her.
Ewa is a
graduate of the University of Rennes in France; she studied translation and
multilingual and multimedia communication. One may contact her in the Polish,
English and French languages.
We will be very pleased if Ewa feels at home within
our modest thresholds and stays with us for a long time. We hope that with her
work and talents she will supplement our team, and that her entirely fresh
point of view shall bring great benefit to our work.
On the
second weekend in September Logostrada and STI organised an integration event
with the participation of our partner firm Eubylon from Berlin, in which our
translators, co-workers and colleagues from cooperating translation agencies in
Poland and abroad took part. We invited all of them to the Laguna holiday
centre, situated among the Lubniewice woods on the shore of the delightful Lake
Lubniewsko.
After
several short presentations, the event had a purely social character, and the
main attractions were the joint outings around the neighbourhood, mushroom
gathering expeditions, relaxation in the bosom of nature, barbecues and meeting
at the table.
Because of
the nature of our work, we know many people only through e-mail correspondence;
it was wonderful to meet them all personally.
We thank
all the participants! It was a great pleasure to meet you. And for those, who
were absent, we show you how it was:
Our
colleague Iwona Banasiak participated in the CLP certification training,
organised by The Institute for Localisation Professionals (TILP).The Institute is a renowned international organisation of
experts and trainers in the professional specialisations collectively known as
localisation.
The course included theoretical preparation in spheres
connected with localisation and translation, such as: an introduction to
information and programming systems, internationalisation, project management,
CAT tools, quality control and an introduction to terminology. The second part
of the training course was a four-day practical workshop in the extent of
location programs - Alchemy Catalyst and SDL Passolo, and also lectures
dedicated to regional localisation problems and characteristics of this market
sector in Poland. Furthermore the course envisaged SDL Trados certification.
The course was complemented by a very interesting
exchange of experiences with colleagues from translation agency friends, the
majority being members of PSBT: "Although during daily work we struggle with
very similar problems, each of us views them from a somewhat different
perspective, depending on the specialisation of their business, which makes
these professional meetings an exceptionally valuable experience."
After passing the examinations Iwona gained the titles
"Certified Localisation Professional" and "SDL Trados Certified User", and also
became a member of TILP. Congratulations!
The
Polish Association of Translation Agencies (Polskie Stowarzyszenie Biur Tłumaczeń / PSBT) was established in order to maintain mutual
contacts, exchange information and mutual assistance between firms connected
with the translation sector.PSBT
actively promotes professional ethics and the accompanying propagation of the
concept of provision of professional translation services. It cooperates with
prestigious international organisations of a similar character, such as EUATC
or The Association of Language Companies, which enables it to extend the range
of its activity. PSBT organises training activities, conferences and meetings
intended to exchange experience and enhance the competence of those
professionally engaged in translation.
PSBT unites the translation community and is active in
the defence of its interests. An example of this was the termination of the
dishonest practices of the Lexus Society, which recently initiated action
against many businesses in our sector.
Currently the Association has over 20 member firms
connected with the translation sector. Now our agency is also a member. We hope
for productive cooperation and a mutual exchange of experiences with
professional colleagues.
More information on the
subject of the Association may be found at: www.psbt.pl.
We are delighted to announce that on the 25th
of July 2009, our colleague Krystian Woźniak married his fiancée, Agnieszka
Wdowska. They married in the Church of the Dominican Order in Poznań among
family and friends. We were pleased to be present at this important event.
We wish Agnieszka and Krystian long and happy lives
together!
